Pseudolite Augmentation of GPS

چکیده
1.1 GPS – benefits & constraints The Global Positioning System (GPS) is an all-weather, global, satellite-based, roundthe-clock system developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, which since the early 1980s has been available to the civilian community and has truly revolutionized navigation, surveying and geodesy. GPS is based on a constellation of up to 30 satellites orbiting the Earth, broadcasting signals that permit a GPS receiver to determine its position, velocity and time from observations to at least four visible satellites. GPS is the most effective general-purpose tool ever developed for geopositioning on land, at sea, in the air, and in space. GPS, and similar follow-on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), will be the conerstone geolocation technology for the next few decades. However, standard GPS/GNSS is not ideal for ubiquitous positioning requirements as it cannot be used indoors or where the satellite signals may be obstructed by buildings or foliage.

Proposed Airport Pseudolite Signal Specification for GPS Precision Approach Local Area Augmentation Systems
The availability and continuity of accuracy and integrity are major concerns for GPS-based precision approach and landing systems without augmentation. Thus, following the lead of the FAA baseline Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) architecture that includes pseudolites, RTCA Special Committee 159 Working Group 4a for GPS/Precision Landing Guidance has set up an Airport Pseudolite (APL) subg...
متن کاملAnalysis of Pseudolite Augmentation for GPS Airborne Applications
The Satellite Navigation and Positioning Group (SNAP) at the University of New South Wales has recently been involved in developing integrated GPS and pseudolite systems for airborne applications, such as for airborne mapping, aircraft automatic landing, and positioning and navigation services using high altitude platforms. To efficiently implement such ground-based pseudolite augmentation for ...
متن کاملPseudolite Augmentation for GPS Aided Aerial Photogrammetry: An Analysis of Systematic Errors
GPS has been widely used as a geo-referencing tool in aerial surveying. However, the accuracy and availability of GPS positioning cannot meet the stringent requirements of large-scale photogrammetry. Ground-based pseudolites can strengthen measurement geometry for GPS based airborne geo-referencing systems. As a result, positioning accuracy and reliability can be improved, especially in the ver...
متن کاملDevelopment of the EGNOS Pseudolite System
In order to access the Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) service, the end user needs to have a direct line of sight to at least one of the Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites transmitting the augmentation messages. This requirement is critical for users in environments such as city canyons, valleys and fjords since high buildings and mountains in the vicinity of the end user can...
متن کاملAugmenting Gps by Ground-based Pseudolite Signals for Airborne Surveying Applications
This paper discusses some issues associated with the implementation of ground-based pseudolite augmentation for GPS airborne surveying applications. For instance, not only should two antenna offsets (one on the top of, and the other underneath, the platform) be corrected for, but the number, the location, and the geometric distribution of the pseudolites on the ground has to be carefully consid...
متن کاملGPS/Pseudolite/SDINS Integration Approach for Kinematic Applications
This paper discusses the introduction of pseudolites (ground-based GPS-like signal transmitters) in existing integrated GPS/INS systems in order to provide higher availability, integrity and accuracy in a local area. Even though integrated GPS/INS systems can overcome inherent drawbacks of each component system (line-ofsight requirement for GPS, and INS errors that grow with time), performance ...
